Jay Bert was born July 4th 1945 and is still living to this day in Frankfort MI. He grew up on an Illinois cornfield. He became a helicopter pilot in Vietnam for the US army. After he left the army he worked at a food restaurant for 35 years in Kansas that seated 500 people. After that he semi-retired, moved back to Michigan, and began working at Gwen Frostics as a printer. Once he fully retired he started moving back and forth between Florida during the winter and Frankfort during the summer. When he was in florida he worked at Disney World and when he was in Frankfort he was a photographer.
Jay's work mainly consists of water, sand, buildings, and people. Most of his photos are in color and taken at a moment in time so you will not be finding any timelapse images. He does landscape, Portraits, and Architectural photos. His landscapes are pictures of public beaches, Lake Michigan, Crystal lake, and Sleeping Bear. He takes photos of Frankfort main street as well as Lighthouses. He takes family photos for people's christmas cards. As a matter of fact he took a photo of my cousins family last summer on the beach.
Jay does not think of himself as a professional photographer. To him it is a hobby that he is very good at. He enjoys the satisfaction of taking a good photo. He takes his camera with him when he is going canoeing/kayaking, hiking, and, sometimes when he goes into town. When he combines his Canoeing and photography he can get great shots that not many people can get.
He did not take any part of influencing me. However just like him, I was influenced by the beauty of northern Michigan. Frankfort is a quiet little town which is located just south of the Traverse City area. I always loved Frankfort for its landscape. When i was a kid I loved going down to lake Michigan beach and hunt for Poteskeys.
